As part of an experimental design project at Nottingham Trent University, I designed a concept for a kettle. The guidelines for the brief were broad, therefore I had the flexibility to chose my own theme.

 

The kettle is designed for the female user in mind. Its curved features, warm tones and crystallized texture displays the feminine aspect of the design.

The handle is curved to feature a heart shape and to provide a smooth finger grip. The lid slides to the side when pouring water into the jug. The lid is secured with a small magnet to keep the kettle closed. The water heater coil is covered by a disposable metal mesh insert which protects the mechanics of the kettle from long-term build up of limescale.
